ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Since entering the ‘working world’ at 15 years old as a restaurant dishwasher, my career has followed two paths - working in the restaurant industry and the online learning industry.
Here's the background and example of the computer-based training (now called eLearning) program I developed in 1996. It was called A Role in the Show. The program was based on a live instructor based waiter sales training course my team delivered to large restaurant chains in the U.K. in the early 90's. The approach was inspired by a field trip to the Disney Institute in 1995.
Developed in 1996, this computer-based training program used ‘the Restaurant Business is Show Business’ metaphors to teach waitstaff how to exceed guest expectations and increase sales.

In the U.K. back in the day, Caterer & Hotelkeeper was the go-to weekly magazine for restaurateurs and hoteliers. Up until the early 1990s in the U.K. most establishments (Pubs, Restaurants, and Hotels) were independently owned and operated. The explosion of themed concepts and chains coincided with the emergence of celebrity TV chefs.
Times have changed, but many of the tenets of great hospitality and guest service are timeless, and much of the info in these 20+year-old articles are still relevant today.
